Mark Wood has been ruled out for four months after undergoing knee surgery.

The fast bowler is likely to miss England's entire five-Test series with India, which is due to finish at the end of July, having suffered ligament damage in his left knee.

It is the latest setback for the 35-year-old, who only returned from an elbow injury for the tour of India earlier this year along with the Champions Trophy.

Wood "experienced increased stiffness and discomfort" in his left knee throughout the latter tournament, in which he missed England's final game against South Africa.

"I'm gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year," he said. "But, I've got every confidence that I'll be back firing on all cylinders now that I've been able to sort my knee out.

"I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, staff, my England team-mates and coaches for their support - and, of course, our fans. I can't wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team."

Wood is likely to be available for the Ashes tour of Australia, which starts in November.
