Bucks' Lillard reportedly out for season after tearing Achilles

On the brink of elimination, the Bucks must press on without their All-Star guard after Lillard tore his Achilles in Game 4.

The Milwaukee Bucks' worst fears have been confirmed.

Damian Lillard tore his left Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the post-season, according to multiple reports.

An MRI on Monday revealed the severity of the injury, which occurred just over six minutes into the first quarter of the Bucks' 129-103 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Sunday.

While trying to corral a rebound, Lillard stumbled and fell to the ground and immediately grabbed his ankle.

He was helped off the court and went straight to the locker room, and shortly thereafter the Bucks ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

After the loss, which put Milwaukee into a 3-1 hole in its first-round series, Bucks coach Doc Rivers acknowledged that the injury appeared to be serious.

"Obviously, it's his lower leg and, just being honest, it's not very promising," Rivers said at his post-game press conference.

It's an unfortunate end to the season for Lillard, who had only just returned last Tuesday after missing the final 14 games of the regular season and the play-off opener due to deep vein thrombosis in his right calf.

In his first action since mid-March, he had 14 points and seven assists in Game 2 before tallying seven points on 2-of-12 shooting and five assists in Friday's 117-101 win - Milwaukee's only victory of this series.

The Bucks now need to reel off three straight wins to extend their season, and will be leaning heavily on Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The two-time NBA MVP is averaging 33.8 points on 62.2 per cent shooting along with 14.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists, but Milwaukee is in danger of being eliminated in the first round for the second year in a row.

Game 5 is on Tuesday back in Indianapolis.

Lillard was selected to his ninth All-Star Game this season and averaged 24.9 points and 7.1 assists - both 10th in the NBA - to go with 4.7 rebounds and a career-high 1.21 steals in 58 games.

He also averaged 3.4 successful 3-pointers per game during the regular season - the seventh-highest rate in the NBA.
