Lakers confirm Doncic arrival from Mavericks
After the shock announcement of their blockbuster trade on Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers confirmed the arrival of Luka Doncic on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed the arrival of Luka Doncic, completing their blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
It is the biggest trade in NBA history, with the Lakers sending their leading points scorer this season, Anthony Davis, as well as Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick to Dallas in order to acquire Doncic, Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris.
Doncic, who has made five straight All-NBA first teams at 25 years old, has averaged 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists in 22 games this season, though has not featured since Christmas Day through injury.
"Luka is a one-of-a-kind, young global superstar who will lead this franchise for years to come," said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.
"His killer instincts and commitment to winning championships will be a driving force for the team. We will be relentless in building a roster around the on-court vision coach [JJ] Redick has for this basketball team and there is an unwavering commitment to that work to serve our loyal and dedicated fans.
"We are grateful and look forward to what's next."

Doncic joins a Lakers team sitting fifth in the Western Conference with a 28-19 record, but it is unclear when he will play his first game for Los Angeles.
Following the announcement, Real Madrid, Doncic's first professional team, have sent their well-wishes to their former player.
"Dear Luka Doncic, we wish you the best of luck and lots of success during this new stage of your career with the Lakers," they said in a social media post.
"During your NBA career so far, you've shown that there are no limits for you. All madridistas are proud of you, and we'll be by your side during this new challenge."
