'Unbelievable' Miami win shows how far McLaren have come, says Piastri
Oscar Piastri and McLaren built their leads in the drivers' and constructors' championship after a dominant win at the Miami Grand Prix.
Oscar Piastri described his Miami Grand Prix win on Sunday as "unbelievable", while also lauding McLaren's significant improvement over the last year.
Piastri led a McLaren one-two from Lando Norris at the Miami International Autodrome, picking up his fourth win of the season to stay top of the drivers' standings.
The Australian became the 22nd different driver in Formula One history to record three consecutive wins, and the first to do so for McLaren since Mika Hakkinen in 1997-98.
Since Norris led the British team to victory in Miami 12 months ago, his maiden victory in F1, McLaren have won 11 races since May 5, 2024.
That is at least four more than any other team, with Red Bull winning six, while Mercedes and Ferrari have four apiece.
Speaking after the race, Piastri spoke of his disappointment at finishing second in Saturday's sprint, but revelled in the sixth overall victory of his career.
"I won the race that I really wanted to," Piastri summarised. "Yesterday was a tricky day.
"Obviously, the sprint was what it was, but qualifying was probably one of my trickiest sessions of the year.
"To come away with a win still on Sunday is an impressive result. Obviously, there was a bit of argy-bargy at Turn 1 which helped me out a little bit, and then I was aware enough to avoid Max coming through in Turn 1.
"From that point onwards, I knew that I had a good pace advantage and clearly the car was unbelievable today."

Piastri comfortably led the race through multiple virtual safety cars, although Norris was able to close the gap to his team-mate towards the end.
But the most important gap was to George Russell in third, who took the chequered flag 37.644seconds after Piastri, further highlighting McLaren's dominant race pace.
"I think towards the end I started to get things a bit more back under control, but there's still definitely some things to work on from this afternoon," Piastri added.
"Very happy with the win, very happy with the points, but constantly got to keep learning. Very happy to be leaving Miami on top.
"It's just incredible, the hard work that’s gone in. I remember two years ago, here in Miami we were genuinely the slowest team. I think we got lapped twice.
"To now have won the Grand Prix by over 35s to third is an unbelievable result and the hard work of every single person – firstly the people here at the track, but everyone at the factory as well."
