Kerr 'blown away' by Curry display in Warriors win over Rockets

The Golden State Warriors booked their place in the Western Conference semi-finals after clinching Game 7 against the Houston Rockets.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said he was "blown away" by Steph Curry's competitive fight in their Game 7 victory over the Houston Rockets.

Curry scored 22 points, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter, along with 10 rebounds and seven assists as the Warriors emerged 103-89 victors to reach the semi-finals.

Golden State had led their first-round series 3-1 before being pegged back by the Rockets to 3-3, but were able to get over the line on Sunday.

They will now face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference semi-finals after they beat the Los Angeles Lakers in five games earlier this week.

While Buddy Hield's record-breaking Game 7 display will see him receive many of the plaudits, Kerr took the time to praise two-time MVP Curry.

"I'm blown away by Steph [Curry's] competitive fight at 37… [He has] 4 rings, a gold medal," Kerr said.

"He has nothing to prove, and yet he's going to come in and try to prove something every single night. It's amazing."

Hield scored 33 points, including 22 in the opening frame. His six 3-pointers in the first half set a Game 7 record.

He finished with nine triples, matching Donte DiVincenzo for most 3s in Game 7 history.

Curry, however, acknowledged the difficulty of coming up against Houston, who finished as the second seed heading into the playoffs.

"That was one of the toughest defenses I think I've ever faced," said Curry.

"The physicality that was allowed early in the series and then their commitment to just trying to take away all the patterns that we usually thrive off of and guard me in half court at times. It was wild.

"But just staying patient but still being aggressive was the difference. Tonight, I only had three points in the first half and five shots, but I'm trying to make the right play and soften them up, and eventually, you can make your presence felt scoring-wise, but everything else was about just trying to make winning plays."

Kerr also took the time to praise Draymond Green, who started Game 7 by forcing Alperen Sengun into a miss before scoring the Warriors' first five points of the game.

Green has been a vital part of Golden State's success this season, though his passionate style of play has backfired, specifically in Game 6.

The 35-year-old clashed with Jalen Green on several occasions, committing a flagrant foul a little over three minutes of their last game and putting the Warriors on the backfoot.

Green, however, addressed the team in a meeting before their Game 7 match, and Kerr believed that was a key factor in their victory.

"Draymond set the tone last night at the team meeting," Kerr added. "Basically, he owned up to losing his poise in Game 6, and I agreed with him.

"I thought the flagrant foul was a tone-setter, and he knew it, and so he talked to the group and said, 'I got to be poised, and I have to be better, and we're going to come in here tomorrow and get it done.'

"And I think his emotional stability tonight, just his poise from the start, set a great tone."
