Curry revels in 'special moment' after reaching 4,000 3-pointer milestone

Stephen Curry wrote his name into the NBA history books once again, hitting a landmark after scoring two 3s against the Sacramento Kings.

Stephen Curry says it is "a special moment" after becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 4,000 3-pointers against the Sacramento Kings.

The Golden State Warriors beat the Kings 130-104 on Thursday to record a sixth straight victory and an 11th in their last 12 games.

Curry became the 26th player to score 25,000 points last Saturday and needed two more 3-pointers to reach the landmark in their latest game.

His first three was from the left wing in the first quarter, but he missed his second try from near the top of the arc.

The 4,000th came from the right wing off a pass from Moses Moody in the third quarter, as he shot 2-for-6 on 3s, with a tribute played on the big screen during a timeout.

Prior to reaching the milestone, Curry told ESPN that it would be "beyond his wildest dreams" to hit the milestone. He already held the record for most 3-pointers made after passing Ray Allen's 2,973 on December 14, 2021.

"It was a special moment, obviously, to do it at home," noted Curry, who turns 37 on Friday.

"The 2,974 record in New York was great, but to do it in front of the home fans… I felt the energy, it was special.

"It was a weird night because we all knew I was two away. Made the first one in the first quarter off a transition, [Jonathan Kuminga] made a great pass.

"Sacramento was playing that gimmicky defense all game where they were literally face-guarding me, top-locking, and nothing was clean about it."

There was also a record for Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who tied Al Attles for the most regular-season coaching wins in franchise history at 557.

He was delighted to see Curry hit the milestone, joking that he could go for another 4,000 in the future.

"So, he just keeps going the way he keeps himself in shape and conditioned in rhythm," Kerr said.

"He's going to make another 1,000 for sure."
