In a rain-disrupted clash at the Wankhede, Gujarat Titans held their nerve to clinch a dramatic three-wicket win over Mumbai Indians via the DLS method.

With rain looming, Shubman Gill elected to bowl first, and his side got off to a dream start, dismissing Ryan Rickleton (two) and Rohit Sharma (seven) within the powerplay to put Mumbai in a spot of bother.

Will Jacks (53) and Suryakumar Yadav (35) mounted a steady recovery, but regular wickets meant the hosts never fully got going.

An excellent all-round bowling display from Gujarat restricted Mumbai to an under-par total of 155-8, despite a late contribution from Corbin Bosch (27).

Despite losing Sai Sudarshan (five) early, Gujarat stayed in the game with Gill (43) and Jos Buttler (30) navigating the middle overs amidst a constant threatening drizzle.

Their innings was first stalled after the 14th over due to heavy rain, though it resumed quickly. Mumbai capitalised on the break, Jasprit Bumrah bowling Gill through the gate immediately after the restart.

Trent Boult trapped Sherfane Rutherford (28) on the pads to take the wind out of Gujarat's sails, but another delay presented itself after the 18th over, with the Titans 10 runs behind the DLS Par Score.

That break ultimately proved costly for Mumbai, with the rain reducing the game to a 19-over affair, meaning that the Titans needed just 15 runs off six balls to win.

Rahul Tewatia (11) carved a boundary off the first ball, while Gerald Coetzee (12) struck a maximum over long off to put GT ahead. An untimely no-ball from Deepak Chahar all but handed the Titans the win, though Coetzee was dismissed off the next ball to bring the equation down to one off one.

Arshad Khan's miscued swipe found Hardik Pandya, who missed the stumps from close range, sealing the win and sending the Titans to the top of the table. Mumbai, meanwhile, remain in the hunt, sitting fourth as the play-off race intensifies.

Data debrief: Low-scoring drama at the Wankhede

In an IPL season where many teams have been chasing 300+ totals, this match was a reminder of the beauty of a low-scoring thriller.

With just 302 runs scored across both innings, this is the lowest match aggregate involving Mumbai and Gujarat in IPL history.

Owing to the rain delays, though, the Titans' worst fears came true as this was the first time this season that none of their formidable top three (Gill, Sudarshan, Buttler) had scored a fifty.

Despite the loss, Mumbai will be very pleased with the consistency Suryakumar has found. This was now his 12th innings in a row crossing 25 runs, with his knock of 35 taking him to the top of this season's run-scoring charts.
