Sunrisers claim huge IPL win as Kishan torments Archer and Royals bowlers
Ishan Kishan scored his first IPL century on debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who produced another stunning batting effort.
Sunrisers Hyderabad fell one run short of their own Indian Premier League team record as they piled on the boundaries to secure a huge win over Rajasthan Royals.
Jofra Archer and the Royals bowlers were tormented by another big-hitting display from last season's runners-up SRH, who hit 34 fours – the most ever recorded in a men's T20 innings – in an astonishing display of hitting.
While this was a continuation of SRH's exploits from last season, it was a new recruit, Ishan Kishan, who did most of the damage, scoring 106 not out from just 47 balls to set up a 44-run victory for the home team on Sunday.
SRH racked up a massive score of 286-6, falling just short of the record 287-3 they posted against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 2024 competition.
Batting at number three, Kishan had six maximums and 11 fours in a magnificent innings after star openers Travis Head (66 from 31) and Abhishek Sharma (24 from 11) had again got their team off to a fast start.

There was no respite at all for the Royals bowlers, with Nitish Kumar Reddy (30 from 15) and Heinrich Klaasen (34 from 14) also joining the party, with Kishan seeing the innings through to its conclusion.
Given Rajasthan lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag early on – both were dismissed by Simarjeet Singh (2-46) in the second over – they made a decent fist of an almost impossible run chase, eventually reaching 242-6 from their 20 overs.
Dhruv Jurel had six maximums in his innings of 70 off 35 balls and impact player Sanju Samson struck 66 from 37 as the Royals began life after Jos Buttler.
There were fireworks down the order too, with Shimron Hetmyer (42 from 23) and Shubham Dubey (34 from 11) both hitting four maximums each, but this was SRH’s day, with Harshal Patel the pick of the bowlers as he secured figures of 2-34.
Data debrief: Misery for Archer
This was a staggering batting effort from SRH, who now hold four of the five biggest totals in IPL history (287, 286, 277 and 266), all of which have been set since the start of 2024.
A massive team score like 286-6 was always likely to produce some miserable bowling figures for the opposition, and that was the case for the Royals here.
England bowler Archer fared the worst in a miserable IPL return. He did not record a wicket and was smashed for 76 runs – including four maximums and 10 fours – giving him the unenviable honour of now holding the most expensive IPL bowling figures in tournament history.

His numbers edged out Mohit Sharma, who returned figures of 0-73 for Gujarat Titans in a match against Delhi Capitals last season.
Archer conceded his runs at an economy rate of 19.00, with Fazalhaq Farooqi (16.33), Maheesh Theekshana (13.00) and Sandeep Sharma (12.75) all coming in for huge punishment too.
Under the circumstances, Tushar Deshpande will likely be proud to escape from Hyderabad with figures of 3-44 (11.00 economy) from his four overs for the Royals.
As for Kishan, it was a dream SRH debut after joining from Mumbai Indians. He got his first century in his 100th IPL innings and his 106th match overall, having previously reached fifty on 16 occasions without making it to three figures.
