Zverev cruises to comfortable win over Bautista Agut in Madrid
Alexander Zverev got his Madrid Open campaign off to an ideal start, easing past Roberto Bautista Agut on Friday.
Alexander Zverev got off to a dream start in his quest for a third Madrid Open title, dispatching Roberto Bautista Agut in a dominant 6-2 6-2 victory.
Arriving in Madrid fresh off his first title of the season at the Munich Open, Zverev showed no signs of slowing down, cruising through the second-round matchup in just 69 minutes.
Zverev, the top seed, won the title in Madrid in 2018 and 2021 and extended his winning streak to six matches with a comfortable victory.
"[It was] a good match, I knew I had to focus against Roberto," said Zverev, who bolstered his record to 24-5 in Madrid.
"I knew that it was going to be a tough challenge, and I’m very happy with the win."
He also expressed his love for Madrid’s Manolo Santana Stadium, adding: "This is my favourite centre court in the world, I only lost twice here in my entire life.
"I hope that stays the way throughout the next 10 days and that I can continue playing good tennis. As long as I do that, I’m happy."
