Gambhir praises India for embracing front-footed approach
India stunned England with a mammoth first innings on Sunday before skittling out the tourists before they could reach triple figures.
India coach Gautam Gambhir wants his team to play without fear as he aims to embrace the front-footed approach that saw them dismantle England.
The Men in Blue won their five-match series 4-1, finishing on a high with their 150-run victory as they inflicted England's heaviest-ever T20I defeat on Sunday.
Abhishek Sharma starred for India. His 135 runs in this match is the highest individual score for India in T20Is, surpassing Shubman Gill's 126, while his 13 sixes also set a national record for the most in an innings in T20Is, beating Rohit Sharma's 10.
He also struck the second-fastest century for India (37 balls), with only Rohit (35) doing so in fewer deliveries.
Only once before have India, who skittled England out for 97 in just 10.3 overs, won by a higher margin than 150 runs, behind their 168-run win against New Zealand in 2023.
Their high-risk approach certainly paid off in the series though, especially in the final two matches, as they posted 181 in the fourth and 247 in the latter, leaving Gambhir delighted with how their performances paid off.
"That's the kind of T20 cricket we want to play. We don't want to fear losing a game of cricket," Gambhir said.
"We want to play high-risk, high-reward cricket. And these guys have adopted that ideology, that policy really well. And I think the ideology of this T20 team is based on selflessness and fearlessness. I think in the last six months, these guys have done it day in, day out.

"We want to try and get to 250-260 regularly, and in trying to do that, there'll be games where we'll get bundled out for 120-130. That is what T20 cricket is all about.
"Unless and until you don't play that high-risk cricket, you won't get those big rewards as well. Most importantly, I think we're on the right track. Come those big tournaments, we want to still continue playing this way, and we don't want to fear losing anything."
Gambhir also reserved special praise for Varun Chakravarthy, who was named Player of the Series following their triumph in Mumbai.
He took a chart-topping 14 wickets over the course of the five matches at an average of 9.85 and an economy rate of 7.66.
"I think his transformation from IPL to international T20 cricket has been phenomenal," Gambhir said. "And this series was probably the benchmark as well, because England is a high-quality side.
"They've got some really quality cricketers and the kind of surfaces we've played on - I think they were fantastic batting wickets and the way he's bowled those tough overs has been phenomenal."
