Bayern Munich came from a goal behind to win 3-1 away to 10-man Augsburg on Friday, but the victory was overshadowed by Jamal Musiala's injury in the second half. 

Musiala was taken off in the 54th minute at the WWK Arena with a suspected hamstring issue, but Vincent Kompany's side were able to hold on to increase their lead at the Bundesliga summit to nine points. 

Second-placed Bayer Leverkusen have the chance to cut Bayern's lead back down to six points on Saturday, with Xabi Alonso's side facing lowly Heidenheim. 

Augsburg defended stoutly in the opening exchanges while also offering a threat on the break, with Samuel Essende firing the game's first meaningful attempt on goal.

And they took the lead in the 30th minute when Jeffrey Gouweleeuw's quick free-kick caught Bayern napping, with Dimitris Giannoulis stealing in behind and rifling the ball past Jonas Urbig and into the roof of the net. 

But Musiala restored parity just before the break, gathering Leroy Sane's cross into the box before shielding the ball brilliantly and finding the left-hand corner on the swivel. 

However, just nine minutes after the break, Musiala dropped to the turf and signalled that he needed replacing, only adding to Kompany's growing injury list ahead of their huge Champions League quarter-final first leg with Inter next week. 

The defining moment in the contest, however, came just before the hour when Cedric Zesiger was shown a second yellow card after pulling down Harry Kane, with Bayern taking full advantage through the England captain's header from inside the box two minutes later.

And the result was sealed in the third minute of second-half stoppage time through a Chrislain Matsima own-goal. The Augsburg defender stuck out a leg to try and block Sane's shot towards goal but instead diverted it past his own goalkeeper. 

Data Debrief: Sane shines for Bayern

Sane continued to impress for Bayern with another dynamic display against Augsburg. Though not officially credited with the assist for Musiala's leveller, the German international showcased his qualities on Friday. 

He ended the contest with team-high totals for shots (seven) and touches in the opposition box (11), while only Josip Stanisic (five) created more chances than Sane during the game (two, level with Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry). 

But Bayern had to showcase their powers of recovery once more to seal a 21st league win of the season. They have now won 12 points from losing positions in the top flight this campaign, more than any other side in the division.
