Antetokounmpo upset with foul by Paul in Bucks' defeat to Spurs

Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers defended Giannis Antetokounmpo after the forward had a heated exchange with San Antonio Spurs' Chris Paul.

Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed his displeasure at a fourth-quarter foul by Chris Paul of the San Antonio Spurs, who beat the Milwaukee Bucks 144-118 in the NBA on Friday.

Paul seemed to have shoved Antetokounmpo to the floor with the Bucks trailing the Spurs 131-111. The Bucks star took exception to the foul and exchanged words with the Spurs player during a minor scuffle.

Jeremy Sochan had to step between Antetokounmpo and Paul to defuse the situation, and Antetokounmpo waited several seconds to talk to Paul after the final buzzer.

"People that know me, they don't try me," Antetokounmpo said of the incident after the game.

"If you try me, it's a different side. If you try me, you're going to get that different side of me. I don't know if I was tripped or I was pushed."

Antetokounmpo registered a game-high 35 points with 13 rebounds and six assists, but it was Victor Wembanyama, who had 30 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks, who guided the Spurs to victory.

"At the end of the day, I think we're all men. We all respect one another," Antetokounmpo said.

"If words cross the line, then there's got to be consequences. I really don't say much. I don't say much to start with, try to play the game the right way.

"If I feel like you're putting my livelihood, my career and my body in jeopardy, in danger, enough is enough, brother.

"I have a family to feed, and what makes you laugh can also make you cry sometimes."

It was Antetokounmpo's fourth straight game with at least 35 points and 10 rebounds, as he tied NBA icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the longest streak in the Bucks' history.

"Giannis is as level-headed as anybody in our league," Milwaukee coach Doc Rivers said.

"So, if he was upset at something, I'm probably going to guess something happened."

The Bucks will next be in action against the Memphis Grizzlies, while the Spurs take on the Miami Heat.
