Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed that Martin Terrier will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles in their Bundesliga win over Borussia Monchengladbach. 

Terrier, who joined Leverkusen from Rennes last July, was replaced by Piero Hincapie after just eight minutes on Saturday after turning awkwardly. 

The Frenchman has netted two goals in 20 appearances across all competitions for Xabi Alonso's side this season, while also registering two assists. 

Terrier joins fellow attacker Victor Boniface on the sidelines, with Alonso fearing the worst even before the news was confirmed by the club on Sunday. 

"It doesn't look good," revealed Bayer Leverkusen coach Alonso in a post-match interview.

"There will be tests tomorrow, but the feeling at the moment is not good. The way he looked backwards is typical of an Achilles injury. It's a shame for Martin."

Granit Xhaka also sympathised with his team-mate, echoing the thoughts of his head coach shortly after full-time at the BayArena. 

"I really hope it's not what we think and what he felt. It would be a slap in the face for the club and us players. It's something that will keep you out for a while," Xhaka added.

Florian Wirtz, who scored twice and notched an assist in the win over Monchengladbach, continued his fine form against them in the Bundesliga. 

Wirtz has nine goal involvements (four goals, five assists) in nine games against Monchengladbach, more than he has managed against a single opponent in the top-flight. 

The result ensured Leverkusen kept the pressure on leaders Bayern Munich, and Wirtz insisted that he was dreaming of retaining their Bundesliga crown this term. 

"We're right in the middle of a title fight again - you can dream a little bit," Wirtz told Sky Germany. "I love playing against Gladbach."
