Williams warns Thunder not to make a habit of going behind

The Oklahoma City Thunder came back to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 114-108 to go 3-0 up in the first-round series.

Jalen Williams has urged his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates not to make a habit of having to come from behind in games, after an incredible turnaround against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Thunder trailed by 26 points at halftime in Thursday's playoff game, but rallied back in style.

Oklahoma recovered to win 114-108 to put the Grizzlies on the brink of elimination, with their second-half comeback the biggest in playoff history.

"In the moment, it sucks," said Williams on going behind, as quoted by ESPN.

"It's not something you want to make a habit of, but we also have extreme confidence in how we can play to turn the tide. We were able to do that."

It was also the second-largest comeback win at any point in a playoff game since the 1997-98 season, after the Los Angeles Clippers turned over a 31-point deficit against the Golden State Warriors in 2019.

Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished on 31 points on Thursday, but was also a rookie on that Clippers team.

"I completely forgot about that [game], so it didn't cross my mind, but that is crazy," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "If they could build it, we could erase it. That's how we see it. That's what we did."

For the Grizzlies, the game-defining moment came with Ja Morant's enforced exit from the game in the second quarter after he suffered a hip injury – they were outscored 74-41 following his withdrawal.

"I thought we did a great job of fighting for 48 minutes against this team," Grizzlies interim coach Tuomas Iisalo said. "It's not enough to fight. You also have to execute."

For the Thunder's Chet Holmgren, though, the credit for swinging the game back in their favour went to coach Mark Daigneault after he drew up a play for him in the third quarter.

Holmgren said: "Mark changed the trajectory of the game. Trusted me in calling a play for me to bomb one at the half after the s***storm I put up in the first half.

"Credit to him for that. Once I saw one go in, I felt good."

The Thunder will confirm their progression with a win in Game 4 on Monday.
