Madison Keys will face Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open after she eased past Donna Vekic in straight sets on Tuesday. 

Keys, who beat Swiatek in the semi-finals on her way to the Australian Open crown, set up a rematch with the world number two following a 6-2 6-3 victory over Vekic. 

Having just scraped past the same opponent at Indian Wells last month, Keys ensured her latest encounter with Vekic was smooth sailing with a break in the opening game. 

The American broke again in the fifth game before taking the first set, and she started in similar fashion with another early break in the second, though Vekic did respond. 

She replied with a break of her own, but Keys immediately broke back before sealing match point against the serve once again, confirming her place in the final eight. 

Keys will be looking to replicate her success at Melbourne Park earlier this year against Swiatek, who overcame a stern test from Diana Shnaider earlier in the day.

Data Debrief: Age just a number for Keys

Keys has been in fine form this season, with this her fifth quarter-final appearance already in 2025, and she will be looking to add to her two titles in the Spanish capital this weekend. 

Since the event's inauguration in 2009, 30-year-old Keys (2024-2025) is the second-oldest player to reach back-to-back quarter-finals at the Madrid Open, younger only than Serena Williams (2012-2015).

She is also the player with the most matches won against top-30 opponents so far in 2025 (14). She is 14-1 against such players this season, only losing to Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells.
