Siraj and Buttler help Titans end RCB's perfect IPL start
Gujarat Titans earned a second win on the bounce, ending Royal Challengers Bengaluru's winning start to the IPL in the process.
Gujarat Titans ended Royal Challengers Bengaluru's perfect start to the Indian Premier League season with an eight-wicket victory on Wednesday.
Mohammed Siraj - making his return to RCB having not been retained after his impressive 2024 season - and Jos Buttler came up big to move the Titans onto four points, level with their opponents.
RCB struggled to find any early rhythm; Arshad Khan claimed a big scalp, dismissing Virat Kohli for seven with just his fourth ball.
Siraj then sent stumps flying to dismiss Devdutt Padikkal (four) in the third over, before dealing Phil Salt (14) a similar fate in the fifth. Rajat Patidar (12) was then trapped lbw shortly after, dropping the hosts to 42-4 inside seven overs.
Liam Livingstone anchored the innings with his half-century, hitting 54 off 40 balls, living a charmed life as he was dropped by Rahul Tewatia, before Buttler missed a stumping.
Jitesh Sharma's 33 pushed RCB on, only for Sai Kishore (2-22) to dismiss him and Krunal Pandya (five) in quick succession, though Tim David added 32 to help them to 169-8.
The Titans faltered slightly at the start as Shubman Gill (14) saw his stand cut short when Livingstone caught his skewed effort, but RCB looked in control from there, with Buttler coming in.
He put together a 75-run partnership with Sai Sudharsan (49) for the second wicket, though the latter was taken with a new ball by Josh Hazlewood.
However, Buttler, who finished with an unbeaten 73, and Sherfane Rutherford (30) got them comfortably over the line, with the latter hitting the winning six to take them to their 170 total with 13 balls to spare.

Data Debrief: Titans coast through
RCB have been in electric form in the IPL so far this season, but their slow start - coupled with the Titans' aggressive approach - saw them come unstuck on Wednesday.
Siraj was RCB's joint-leading wicket-taker last season with 15, level with Yash Dayal, and he showed his old side what they were missing as he boasted an economy rate of 4.75 from four overs.
As for Buttler, that was already his second half-century in the IPL this year, with his knock including five fours and six sixes off just 39 balls.
