NBA: Cavs, Celtics post impressive wins
The Eastern Conference's top two teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics, both cruised to impressive wins Monday in the NBA.
Donovan Mitchell poured in 33 points as the Cleveland Cavaliers put an end to the Phoenix Suns' recent hot stretch by cruising to a 118-92 victory on Monday.
The NBA-leading Cavaliers dominated the second and third quarters to improve to 21-2 at home this season and hand Phoenix just its second loss in its past seven games. Cleveland also received 16 points from Darius Garland and 12 points and 11 rebounds from Jarrett Allen.
Kevin Durant paced Phoenix with 23 points and seven rebounds, but the Suns' other stars struggled. Devin Booker had a streak of five consecutive games of 30 or more points end as he was held to 15, while Bradley Beal managed just five in 25 minutes in his return from a sprained ankle that sidelined him two games.
After the teams played to a 27-27 tie after one quarter, the Cavaliers took control in the second. Cleveland opened the period with a 9-0 run and later extended its advantage to 14 points before the Suns pulled to within 59-46 at the break when Booker made one of two free throws with 12.4 seconds left before half-time.
Mitchell, who missed seven of his eight shots in the first quarter, then got hot in the second half to help Cleveland break the game open.
The star guard hit a trio of 3-pointers while amassing 12 third-quarter points. Mitchell's final triple of the period, which came right before the buzzer, sent the Cavs into the fourth owning a commanding 93-70 advantage.

Celtics deal Warriors worst home loss since 1985
Jayson Tatum had 22 points to lead a balanced and efficient Boston offence as the Celtics rolled to a 125-85 rout of Golden State, the Warriors' most lopsided home loss in 40 years.
The reigning NBA champions excelled on both ends of the floor to hand the Warriors their largest margin of defeat at home since a 149-104 loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 15, 1985. Boston shot 53.3 per cent overall and went 20 of 48 from 3-point range, while holding Golden State to a 34.8 field goal percentage and 26.4 per cent success rate from beyond the arc.
Kristaps Porziņģis added 18 points and Jaylen Brown totalled 17 before both players, along with Tatum, sat out the fourth quarter with the outcome not in doubt.
The Warriors entered this high-profile matchup on a two-game winning streak but were done in by their poor shooting and inability to stop the Celtics. Andrew Wiggins particularly struggled, missing 10 of his 11 shots while managing just four points in 24 minutes.
Stephen Curry led Golden State with 18 points but had an off night as well, going 4 of 12 from 3-point range and 6 of 16 overall.
The Warriors' shooting woes occurred right from the start, as they went just 7 of 24 from the field as Boston opened up a 29-18 lead after one quarter behind eight points from Porzingis. The Celtics ended the period on an 8-0 run that featured 3-pointers from Tatum and Sam Hauser.
Boston's margin never got out of double digits the rest of the way, as they went into half-time owning a comfortable 54-39 advantage before dominating the Warriors further in the third quarter.
The Celtics shot 66.7 per cent while outscoring the Warriors 43-24 in the third quarter to take a 97-63 lead into the fourth. Tatum had 12 points during the period with Brown contributing nine.
A 43-point third quarter capped off an impressive 125-85 win over Golden State to start the West Coast road trip. https://t.co/Sf91Tk989i

Jackson, Bane rally Grizzlies past Timberwolves
Jaren Jackson Jr. recorded 24 points and 11 rebounds, Desmond Bane added 22 points and the Memphis Grizzlies rallied in the second half to earn a 108-106 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jackson scored 17 of his points over the final two quarters as the Grizzlies overcame an 11-point half-time deficit to earn their third straight win. With Houston's loss to the Detroit Pistons earlier Monday, Memphis moved to within a half-game of the Rockets for second place in the Western Conference.
Ja Morant added 19 points and seven assists for the Grizzlies, who shot just 7 of 33 (21.2 per cent) from 3-point range but compensated by dominating Minnesota inside and excelling at the foul line.
Memphis outscored the Timberwolves by a 32-18 margin in the paint for the second half and made 18 of 19 free-throw attempts in the final two quarters.
Minnesota was dealt a second straight loss despite Anthony Edwards' 32 points and Naz Reid's 29 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Julius Randle recorded 11 rebounds in the loss but struggled with his shot, as he went 2 of 13 from the field and 0 of 7 from 3-point range while being held to five points.
The Timberwolves appeared on the way to victory after taking a 95-86 lead on Reid's hook shot with 6:53 left to play. Memphis answered with a 7-0 run, however, and the game remained tight the rest of the way.
Memphis went ahead for good by scoring 11 straight points later in the fourth quarter. Bane's floater with 3:21 remaining snapped a 100-100 tie, and Jackson and Morant extended the margin by making two free throws each for a 106-100 edge with 2:20 to go.

The Grizzlies went scoreless over the final 1:49 as Minnesota closed within 108-106, and the Timberwolves had a chance to win at the end. Edwards misfired on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer, however, as Memphis held on.
