Championship: Sheffield United slip up again as Leeds go top
Leeds United moved back into top spot in the Championship by seeing off Preston North End, while Sheffield United slipped up once more.
Sheffield United's torrid week was capped off with a stunning 2-1 loss at struggling Plymouth Argyle as Leeds United moved top of the Championship.
The Blades lost for a third straight game as Muhamed Tijani netted an 88th-minute winner for bottom club Argyle, who completed an extraordinary comeback.
Chris Wilder's team appeared set to get back to winning ways thanks to Jesurun Rak-Sakyi's goal late in the first half.
Yet Plymouth levelled through Ryan Hardie before, seven minutes later, substitute Tijani volleyed home.
Tempers boiled over at full-time, with Blades boss Wilder unhappy with Plymouth's celebrations in front of the travelling United fans.
The Blades are now five points behind the automatic promotion places, with Leeds moving back above Burnley at the summit on goal difference thanks to a 2-1 win over Preston North End at Elland Road, where all the goals came in the opening 13 minutes.
Manor Solomon's excellent effort put Leeds ahead, but Kaine Kesler-Hayden thumped in a swift equaliser.
Solomon turned provider when he set up Jayden Bogle's close-range finish, with Joel Piroe then clattering the crossbar.
Leeds were not made to pay for Piroe's profligacy, though, and with four games remaining, they could soon confirm their place back in the big time.
Plymouth's victory put the pressure on Luton Town and Cardiff City, but both of those teams fell to 1-0 defeats to Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, respectively.
It means Argyle are bottom only on goal difference, having matched the Hatters' tally of 40 points, with Cardiff in 22nd on 42 points, one behind Derby County, who were denied a win over Portsmouth in a frantic 2-2 draw.
All four goals came after the 70th minute, with Pompey defender Rob Atkinson scoring twice in Derby's net and once in his own.
Having cancelled out Jerry Yates' opener, Atkinson then scored an own goal before popping up with a 91st-minute equaliser.
West Brom beat Watford 2-1 to close within two points of the play-off places, while fourth-place Sunderland went down 1-0 at home to Swansea City, while Middlesbrough's top-six hopes were dented by a 1-0 loss at Millwall.
