NBA: Pistons cool Celtics with 8th straight victory

The Pistons extended their winning streak to eight for the first time in 17 years and snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Celtics

Malik Beasley scored 26 points, Cade Cunningham had 21 points and 11 assists and the Detroit Pistons beat the Boston Celtics 117-97 on Wednesday night in a matchup of two of the NBA's hottest teams.

The Pistons (33-26) won their eighth straight and ended a 12-game losing streak against Boston, two nights after stopping a 10-game skid against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The eight-game run is Detroit’s longest since a 10-game win streak in 2008.

Jayson Tatum scored 27 points and Derrick White and Payton Pritchard each had 18 for Boston (42-17), which had won six straight and 10 of 11.

Jalen Duren added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Detroit, which had a 49-33 rebounding edge.

The Pistons led 90-79 entering the fourth, then scored the first eight points of the quarter to take a 19-point advantage.

Tied at 55 at halftime, Detroit took control by outscoring the Celtics 35-24 in the third quarter.

Thunder bounce back, rally past Nets

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 27 points, Chet Holmgren had 22 and 17 rebounds, and the Oklahoma City Thunder rebounded from a stunning collapse with a game-changing blitz in the fourth quarter to defeat the Brooklyn Nets 129-121.

Aaron Wiggins added 24 points and Jalen Williams contributed 22 for the Thunder, who were playing for the first time since their 131-128 loss to Minnesota on Monday, when they led by 24 points in the fourth quarter and were still ahead by 16 with under 4 minutes remaining in regulation.

They had some of the same defensive woes in this one, when they allowed a season-high 76 points in the first half and trailed by 18. But then they unleashed an 18-0 run in the fourth quarter, turning a 103-99 deficit into a 117-103 lead. Oklahoma City outscored Brooklyn 27-7 to begin the period.

Day'Ron Sharpe scored a career-high 25 points in his first start of the season for the Nets, adding 15 rebounds and five assists. Killian Hayes had a season-best 19 points and Cam Johnson also scored 19.

With Oklahoma City having just taken a two-point lead, Cason Wallace got the next two baskets off his own steals, giving the Thunder a 109-103 lead midway through its run.

The Nets made a season-high 23 3-pointers on a franchise-record 61 attempts.

Brunson takes over late to lift Knicks

Jalen Brunson scored 12 of his 34 points late and Mikal Bridges scored 28 points as the New York Knicks held off the reeling Philadelphia 76ers 110-105.

OG Anunoby had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Josh Hart added seven points, 17 rebounds and four assists for the Knicks, who won for the fourth time in six games and 11th in their last 15.

Tyrese Maxey scored 30 points for Philadelphia, which lost its ninth straight. Paul George had 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and Kelly Oubre Jr added 27 points.

The 76ers were held to just 45 points in the first half and 67 through the first 33 minutes, but responded in furious fashion, led by Maxey, who had 17 points in the final 15:13 despite shooting just 12 for 32 from the field and going 0 for 10 on 3-pointers.

Bridges took over from the outset by scoring 19 points in the first quarter on 8-of-10 shooting and Brunson then took over late by scoring 10 of New York’s final 12 points.

The Knicks led by 14 late in the third quarter, but Philadelphia roared back to take a 102-98 lead with 3:45 left in regulation. Brunson responded with a personal 9-0 run, including a 3-pointer that circled the rim and went in that gave New York the lead for good with 1:28 left.
