Piastri caps dream weekend 'in style' with Bahrain triumph
Oscar Piastri claimed his second victory of the year in Bahrain, putting pressure on his team-mate Lando Norris in the drivers' standings.
Oscar Piastri was pleased to cap an impressive weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix in style, streaking away from his rivals to become Formula One's first repeat winner in 2025.
Piastri started on pole for just the second time in his career at Sakhir, and a controlled drive saw him back up his triumph at the Chinese Grand Prix with another win.
The victory saw him leapfrog Max Verstappen to go second in the drivers' championship standings behind team-mate Lando Norris, who finished third behind George Russell.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the race, the Australian said: "It's great to have this result out here. It's been an incredible weekend, to start off in qualifying yesterday and to finish off the job today in style was nice.
"I can't thank the team enough for the car they've given us, it's pretty handy out there, it's been a great weekend and [I am] very proud of what I've done as well."
Piastri held a seven-second lead that evaporated when debris on the track led to a safety car midway through the race, but he emerged even stronger when racing resumed to finish 15 seconds clear of Russell.

"I would have preferred to not have had the safety car, but I was still pretty confident," he added. "The pace was good, and I was pretty confident I could get a good restart.
"I also knew that Lando and I were the only ones with another medium tyre, and that was the tyre to be on.
"From that side of things, it was relatively straightforward. Obviously, you try and get a good restart, and you don't know how it's going to go, but I was never going to let that one go."
With the McLaren team being owned by Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund but having never previously tasted victory at the track, Piastri said the victory was particularly sweet.
"I'm proud to have done it here in Bahrain as well," he said. "It's obviously a very important race for us given our owners, and it's never been a track that has been kind to us, so it's nice to finally have that first win for the team here."
