The Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday that Anthony Davis will miss at least one week with an abdominal injury the star forward sustained Tuesday against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Davis exited the Lakers' 118-104 loss in the first quarter and later underwent an MRI that revealed an abdominal strain, the team said in a statement. The nine-time All-Star will head back to Los Angeles and is scheduled to be re-evaluated in approximately one week.
The 31-year-old has dealt with several injuries in the past but had remained healthy this season up to this point, having played in 42 of the Lakers' 45 games. Davis has played a key role in the Lakers' rise to first place in the Pacific Division by averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per game.
Davis had been playing some of his best basketball of late as well. The veteran big man entered Tuesday's contest averaging 32.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.5 blocks during a four-game winning streak the Lakers carried into Philadelphia.
