Rasmus Hojlund is trying so hard to end his goal drought that "he makes it worse" for himself, according to Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim.

The Denmark international has failed to score in each of his last six games in all competitions, since finding the net in the 3-0 win over Leicester City in mid-March.

That strike represents Hojlund's only goal of 2025, and one of just three he has registered in 28 Premier League appearances during a difficult campaign for the Red Devils, who occupy 14th place in the table.

The 22-year-old has been more clinical in the Europa League, netting five times, but his overall tally of eight is exactly half of his total during his debut season at Old Trafford in 2023-24.

"A striker needs to score goals, so we try to help him," Amorim told reporters during his pre-match press conference ahead of United's clash with Bournemouth on Sunday.

"He is trying really hard, and he wants things so bad, he makes it worse. He created one situation against Wolves, and he is improving the small things. The goal will come."

With three goals from 24 shots in the Premier League this term - from nine shots on target - Hojlund has underperformed his xG of 3.36.

Despite a shot conversion rate of just 12.5%, though, he boasts the third-highest among United's forwards, behind only Marcus Rashford (25%) and Amad Diallo (15%).
