Draper downs Rune to win maiden ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells

Jack Draper notched the biggest win of his career at Indian Wells on Sunday, beating Holger Rune in the final in just 70 minutes.

Jack Draper romped to a straight-sets victory over Holger Rune in the BNP Paribas Open final at Indian Wells to claim his first ATP 1000 Masters title.

Draper delivered a ruthless display of on-court power and aggression against an overwhelmed Rune, as the Briton emerged a 6-2 6-2 victor in one hour and 10 minutes.

The 23-year-old now climbs to a career-high ranking of seventh in the world after securing the greatest victory of his career with a dominant performance from the very first ball.

Draper started the contest with back-to-back breaks and sealed the first set in just 29 minutes, losing just four points on serve throughout the opener.

He broke again in the opening game of set two and never looked in trouble against his Danish opponent, though he did have to fight off nerves to get the victory over the line.

After sending a forehand long on his first championship point, Draper completed the job at the second attempt when Rune pushed a return wide.

"It is an incredible feeling," Draper told Sky Sports.

"I have put in a lot of work over time, and I'm so grateful to be out here, with my body healthy and feeling great in my mind. It feels like it is all coming together on the big stage."

Data Debrief: Draper concludes dream run in double quick time

After reaching his first grand slam semi-final at the US Open last year, Draper's recent form has benefitted from that run, though many may have predicted an early exit at Indian Wells after being handed a nightmare draw.

On his way to the showpiece match, Draper beat Joao Fonseca, Jenson Brooksby, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton and two-time reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz, though he saved his best performance until the very end.

Indeed, Draper claimed the victory in the final at Indian Wells in 70 minutes, the quickest time on court to claim a win at the event since Roger Federer defeated Tim Henman in 2004.

And his impressive rise is backed up by the statistics. Since October last year, Draper (87.0%, 20-3) now only trails Jannik Sinner (100.0%, 21-0) for winning percentage at ATP level, with a minimum of five matches played.
