Ocon 'lucky' to witness Hamilton testing for Ferrari
Lewis Hamilton joined Ferrari after leaving Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season, ending a 12-year association with the latter.
Lewis Hamilton is continuing preparations for the 2025 Formula 1 season by testing for Ferrari at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The seven-time world champion, who turned 40 in January, shocked the world when announcing he would move from Mercedes to Ferrari after 12 years.
Hamilton drove the Ferrari during the afternoon session in Barcelona on Tuesday, taking over from team-mate Charles Leclerc, who had been at the wheel that morning.
While the testing took place behind closed doors, Haas driver Esteban Ocon was present to watch Hamilton's first outing in a Ferrari car at their Fiorano circuit, thanks to a technical partnership between the teams.
Around 3,000 Ferrari fans reportedly flocked to the circuit to get a glimpse of Hamilton in his new uniform, and it was something Ocon felt privileged to witness.
"Great image," he told Canal+ when shown the photograph of Hamilton posing in a Ferrari race suit. "In fact, I was lucky enough to be in the same place on the same day, because I was also at the Ferrari simulator.
"There was a crazy atmosphere, people were going crazy. It's just wonderful to see that there's so much passion for Ferrari - for F1, of course - in the world, and that it's growing all the time.
"It's clear that to have the greatest driver of our generation in the most successful team is just something crazy. So yeah, I can't wait to be able to fight on track with him, that's for sure."
