Arteta: Saka injury 'doesn't look anything serious'

Bukayo Saka required an ice pack after being taken off in Arsenal's win over Ipswich, but Mikel Arteta played down the severity of it.

Mikel Arteta has said the injury sustained by Bukayo Saka in Arsenal's 4-0 win at Ipswich Town "doesn't look anything serious".

Saka was on the end of a poor tackle from Leif Davis in Sunday's Premier League contest that resulted in the Ipswich defender being issued a straight red card.

The England international stayed on the field for a further half an hour, missing several great chances, but he required strapping to his ankle once taken off.

With the Champions League semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain just nine days away, Arteta played down the severity of the issue.

"He is in a bit of pain, but thankfully it doesn't look anything too serious," Arteta told Sky Sports.

"I didn't see the tackle – it was quite fast. You have to watch it, but it's a good decision from the referee."

Davis' dismissal after 32 minutes was the earliest for an Ipswich player in a Premier League match since Phil Whelan in December 1994, also against Arsenal (23rd minute).

Arsenal were a goal ahead at that point through Leandro Trossard's strike, before Gabriel Martinelli doubled the visitors' tally before half-time.

Trossard added a second and Ethan Nwaneri was also on the scoresheet late on as Arsenal made it 12 away league games without defeat.

The win also delays Liverpool's title celebrations until at least Wednesday.

"I'm really happy with that performance, especially the way we started the game with 11 against 11," Arteta added.

"The first 35 minutes were exceptional. We scored two and could have scored three or four. After the sending off, the game changed.

"We controlled the game well. We lacked a bit of threat but scored two good goals. We rotated players and rested players, so a good afternoon."

Trossard has now been directly involved in 11 goals in his last 13 Premier League games against promoted opposition (five goals, six assists).

The attacker did not start either leg of the Champions League quarter-final win over Real Madrid, but staked his claim to start against PSG.

"He looked very sharp," Arteta said of the Belgium international. "We know his quality. Put him right, left or centre and he will deliver."

Ipswich, meanwhile, have taken just 21 points from 33 games this term and are 15 points from safety with five matches left to play.

"It was a tough afternoon," Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said. "The first half an hour was really difficult.

"The game was almost done [at half-time] and we had to show the right values, and we did that. They scored two goals off short corners.

"The opponent was too strong for us today when 11 versus 11, and with 10 men it was almost impossible."
