NBA: Nuggets even series on Gordon's dunk at buzzer

Aaron Gordon had the first game-winning, buzzer-beating dunk in NBA playoff history as the Nuggets stunned the Clippers to even the series

Aaron Gordon slammed down Nikola Jokic's miss as time expired to lift the Denver Nuggets over the Los Angeles Clippers 101-99 on Saturday to tie their playoff series 2-2.

Video review confirmed the ball left Gordon’s hands above the rim just before the buzzer sounded after the Nuggets had blown a 22-point lead.

Jokic had 36 points, 21 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Nuggets. Michael Porter Jr. and Christian Braun had 17 points apiece.

Kawhi Leonard scored 24 points for the Clippers. Norman Powell added 22 and Ivica Zubac had 19 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

After the Nuggets split two games at the new Intuit Dome, the series moves back to Denver for Game 5 on Monday.

A skirmish between the teams near the end of the first half resulted in six technical fouls, including on Jokic.

The Clippers led for the first time in the game at 97-96 on Bogdan Bogdanovic’s offensive rebound and basket with 1:11 remaining. Jokic’s free throw and basket put Denver back in front, 99-97, before Zubac tied it.

Jokic’s 3-point attempt from the right side soared long over the basket, but Gordon sprang for the rebound with James Harden on his back and slammed it down. The teams were left in suspense while the referees reviewed the play.

The Nuggets outscored the Clippers 35-19 in the third to lead 85-65.

Leonard, Harden and Powell sparked the Clippers in the fourth, when they outscored Denver 34-16.

Jokic was one of three Nuggets, along with Gordon and Braun, to receive technicals for the mid-court melee with 6.6 seconds left. Harden, Powell and Kris Dunn of the Clippers got offsetting fouls after the referees decided no closed fist punches were thrown.

Thunder finish sweep of Grizzlies

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the Western Conference semifinals by beating the Memphis Grizzlies 117-115 to complete a four-game sweep.

Jalen Williams added 23 points for the top-seeded Thunder, who led the NBA with a 68-14 record this season and became the first team to reach the second round. They will await the fourth-seeded Denver Nuggets or No. 5 Los Angeles Clippers in the next round.

The Grizzlies played without star guard Ja Morant, who bruised his left hip in a hard fall in Game 3. The Thunder erased a 29-point deficit after he left, the second-biggest comeback in a postseason game since detailed play-by-play began being kept in 1996-97.

Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Isaiah Joe had 11 points apiece for the Thunder, with Hartenstein adding 12 rebounds.

Scotty Pippen Jr. matched his career high with 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Desmond Bane and Santi Aldama had 23 points apiece.

The game was close through three quarters with neither team building a significant advantage. Oklahoma City led 88-85 entering the fourth. At that point, the Thunder were 4 of 29 from 3-point range.

Williams’ 3-pointer with 5:41 left in the game gave the Thunder a 102-92 lead, the first time either team reached a double-digit advantage. Memphis rallied and a 3-pointer from Bane with 7.1 seconds left cut it to 116-114.

Williams split a pair of free throws with 6 seconds left, and the Thunder fouled Bane intentionally. He made the first, but Memphis could not rebound his intentional miss of the second.

Curry leads Warriors without Butler

Stephen Curry eventually found his shooting groove while Houston tried everything to stop him, finishing with 36 points, nine assists and seven rebounds to lead the Golden State Warriors past the Rockets 104-93 without Jimmy Butler for a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series.

Playoff Steph delivered while Playoff Jimmy became his biggest cheerleader on the bench - in a full-length fur coat.

Buddy Hield had 17 points off the bench with five 3-pointers as the Warriors won their sixth straight Game 3 in the opening round. Gary Payton II scored 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Game 4 of the best-of-seven series is Monday night at Chase Center. The biggest question will be whether Butler can heal in time to contribute.

The Warriors missed their do-everything forward after he suffered a pelvic injury and deep gluteal muscle contusion in a hard fall during Game 2.

Fred VanVleet hit consecutive 3-pointers and had a three-point play to score Houston's initial nine points and wound up with 17. Alperen Sengun added 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Curry missed his three 3-point tries in the opening period as Golden State went 2 for 13 from long range, finally connecting from deep 5:16 before halftime. His 13-point second quarter helped pull Golden State within 49-46 at the break after trailing by 13.

Cavs roll over Heat for 3-0 lead

Jarrett Allen scored 22 points, De’Andre Hunter added 21 and the Cleveland Cavaliers handed Miami its worst-ever playoff loss by topping the Heat 124-87 for a 3-0 lead in their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Evan Mobley scored 19 and Max Strus added 18 for Cleveland, which got 13 points apiece from Ty Jerome and Donovan Mitchell.

Bam Adebayo scored 22 points and Davion Mitchell added 16 for Miami. The worst Heat playoff loss, before Saturday, was a 36-point defeat in Game 3 of the 2013 NBA Finals at San Antonio.

That Heat team won an NBA title. This Heat team is on the brink of being swept.

It's the 11th time that a Cavaliers team has taken a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven series - the other 10 were all in the LeBron James eras in Cleveland, and they all ended in 4-0 sweeps.

The Cavs will try to finish off a sweep of their own when Game 4 is played in Miami on Monday. It's the 159th time in NBA history that a team has taken a 3-0 series lead; the first 158 went on to win the series.

It was all Miami for the first 5 1/2 minutes, as would be expected from a team in a 2-0 series hole and back home trying to make it a series. But after that, it was all Cleveland, the Cavaliers taking full control of the game over the next 8 minutes with a 33-5 run.

Cleveland shot 13 for 17 during the spurt, scoring on its first eight possessions of the run. And it ended with five consecutive makes from 3-point range, all those coming in a span of just over 2 minutes.
