Djokovic downs Musetti to reach Miami quarters
Novak Djokovic will face Sebastian Korda for a place in the semi-finals of the Miami Open after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic made light work of Lorenzo Musetti to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open.
Djokovic, who is on the hunt for his 100th ATP title, won 6-2 6-2 in a match that was delayed by rain, to set up a last-eight encounter with Sebastian Korda.
The 37-year-old made a poor start, falling a break down before being issued with a time violation warning, yet he then reeled off nine successive games to lead 6-2 3-0.
Musetti regained some composure to hold consecutive service games, but Djokvic grabbed a decisive double break to seal his victory.
"It was tough, particularly in the first seven, eight games of the match," said fourth seed Djokovic, who is a six-time champion in Miami.
But I think breaking his serve to come back to 2-all and break right away at 3-2, it was a momentum shift and I tried to use that."
Djokovic was being watched by Juan Martin del Potro and Serena Williams, who were both in the crowd in Florida.
"I was starstruck! It was amazing to see first DelPo, obviously a long-time friend and a rival, so happy to have him around and get his support from the box," he said.
"It was amazing, it was [the] first time to have DelPo in the box, so I want to thank him really for coming. And Serena, that was a surprise. I didn't know."
