Interim Manchester City head coach Nick Cushing is confident his side will quickly move on from their Champions League heartbreak and focus on finishing their campaign as well as possible.

City exited Europe after Chelsea turned around their quarter-final tie with a 3-0 second-leg win at Stamford Bridge to win 3-2 on aggregate. The Blues also beat them in the League Cup final and the Women's Super League during a four-game run.

They are also 15 points behind the Blues, who sit top of the WSL table, but are still in the hunt for European qualification with five games left, and have an FA Cup semi-final to contest.

"I think we will get over this quickly because we know what we have to play for," Cushing said. "We have to chase those teams above us for the Champions League places, so it's about focus now.

"As the coach, you have to analyse where we can potentially make up that ground. It starts with us having to win. We have to be in distance with those three games.

"We know the finish Manchester United have, so there is an opportunity, in my opinion. We don't get that opportunity if we don't get the points in the Brighton game and the subsequent league fixtures."

Cushing also spoke on his side's injuries, with Lauren Hemp "still with the performance team" and not set for an imminent return, but noted Alex Greenwood was "closer" to a return.

City visit Brighton on Sunday, looking to close the gap to the top three.
