Curry relieved to avoid serious injury after impressive Warriors return
Stephen Curry made his return from a pelvic contusion on Friday, top-scoring for the Golden State Warriors to earn a win in New Orleans.
Stephen Curry says he was relieved he is still able to play for the Golden State Warriors after avoiding what could have been a more serious injury.
Curry returned after a two-game absence to help the Warriors to a 111-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday.
Coming back from a pelvic contusion he suffered on March 20, Curry played 34 minutes, scoring 23 points and hitting five 3-pointers, though he made just seven of 21 shots.
Jimmy Butler had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Jonathan Kuminga added 16 against the injury-depleted Pelicans to help Golden State to the victory.
Curry had taken a scary fall during Golden State's win over the Toronto Raptors last Thursday.
He did not suffer a hairline fracture in his tailbone, which had been an initial fear as he had done so before, falling hard on stairs against the Houston Rockets in 2020-21, which cost him five games.
"It just reminded me of '21 when I fell into the stairs in Houston," Curry said.
"I think that [this time it didn't] break anything or have any bone damage, was mostly just a deep serious contusion that I'll feel it for a while. But I can play, and I can't make it worse as long as I don't land on it again.

"I felt good before it [the injury]. I mean, I know there's all that talk with the volume or the load that I've been through, but physically, I felt well and felt good and had some juice every night.
"I think it should be a good run all the way to our last game. You got nine games left, so we got to win as many as we can."
The Warriors had lost both games in which Curry did not feature but pulled a game back to make it 1-2 on what could be a pivotal six-game road trip in their attempts to earn a top-six seeding in the Western Conference.
Head coach Steve Kerr also noted that a week off at this stage of the season could prove beneficial, as he was impressed by the 37-year-old's return.
"I thought he looked great," Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. "He was moving really well. Took care of the ball.
"I thought Steph played an excellent game. He probably missed his last five or six 3s, so the numbers don't look great, but he looked like himself. And I think the week off did him a lot of good."
Next up for the Warriors, who sit seventh in the West with a 42-31 record, is the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday.
