Bayern Munich 3-0 Mainz: Leaders on the cusp of Bundesliga title
Bayern Munich can wrap up the Bundesliga title next weekend, with their 3-0 victory over Mainz putting them on the brink of winning it.
Bayern Munich eased to a 3-0 win over Mainz on Saturday, but had to put their title celebrations on ice after Bayer Leverkusen matched their win.
Bayern could have clinched the Bundesliga crown had Leverkusen dropped points, but they can now secure their 34th league title with a win at RB Leipzig next week.
Jonathan Burkardt missed a glorious chance to open the scoring for the visitors after five minutes, but after shaking off Kim Min-Jae in the box, he blazed over the bar.
Josip Stanisic also fired wide shortly after, but Bayern eventually found the breakthrough in the 27th minute, with Konrad Laimer teeing up Leroy Sane to fire into the far corner.
With five minutes to play in the first half, Michael Olise doubled their lead with a stunning solo effort, firing into the back of the net from a tight angle with a superb finish.
Sane then twice hit the woodwork in the second half. When one-on-one with the goalkeeper, his dinked effort struck the post just after the hour before he repeated that feat with a half volley less than 20 minutes later.
Eric Dier eventually headed home their third goal in the 84th minute, rising at the far post to head home from Olise's corner, shortly after Thomas Muller entered the pitch to make his 500th Bundesliga appearance.
Top-scorer Harry Kane will miss next week's game at Leipzig after picking up his fifth booking and a suspension.

Data Debrief: Bayern celebrate Muller's landmark
Muller came on in the 83rd minute to make his 500th league appearance for the club.
He is only the fourth player to reach that mark in the Bundesliga, featuring for just one club, after Karl-Heinz Korbel (602 games for Eintracht Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (581 for Hamburger SV) and Michael Lameck (518 for Bochum).
While Leverkusen ensured he would not celebrate that landmark with a title, Bayern put on a show at the Allianz Arena.
Olise has now provided 12 assists in the Bundesliga this season, a league high. Since detailed data collection began in 2004-05, only one new Bayern signing has ever set up as many goals in a top-flight campaign: James Rodriguez in 2017-18 (also 11 assists).
Bayern also extended their winning streak over Mainz at home to eight matches - their longest current such streak in the competition.
