Draper downs Musetti to book Madrid Open final spot
Jack Draper's fine 2025 continued as he downed Lorenzo Musetti to reach the Madrid Open final, where he will face Casper Ruud.
Jack Draper booked his spot in the Madrid Open final following a battling straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti on Friday.
Draper, who is yet to drop a set in the Spanish capital, emerged a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) victor in one hour and 57 minutes to reach his third final of 2025.
The Briton will face Casper Ruud in Sunday's showpiece match after the 14th seed beat Francisco Cerundolo earlier in the day.
Draper earned an immediate break at the start of the opening set, but he was swiftly pegged back by Musetti.
The 23-year-old broke again in the fourth game before claiming the early lead, with the pair trading blows in a pulsating second set.
Both Draper and Musetti could not be separated as the second set went to a tie-break, in which the former prevailed, confirming his place in the final.

Data Debrief: Young gun Draper hunting glory
After sealing his place in the top five of the ATP rankings with his quarter-final win over Matteo Arnaldi, Draper is hoping to cap another deep run on the big stage with another title.
Reaching the final in Madrid, Indian Wells champion Draper (23 years and 121 days) has become the youngest player representing Great Britain in the Open Era to reach ATP event finals on clay, grass and hard court.
Among players born since 2000, Draper (Indian Wells, Madrid) has also become the second player to reach ATP Masters 1000 finals on multiple surfaces in a season, after Carlos Alcaraz (2022-23).
