Djokovic within reach of 100th title after sealing place in Miami final
Novak Djokovic is closing in on more history after reaching the Miami Open final with a straight-sets win over Grigor Dimitrov.
Novak Djokovic is now just one win away from his 100th ATP Tour title after a straight-sets victory over Grigor Dimitrov sent him into the Miami Open final.
Should Djokovic win the showpiece this weekend, it would also earn him a record-breaking seventh title in Miami, and he will be buoyed by a confident 6-2 6-3 win over Dimitrov in just 70 minutes.
In front of a star-studded crowd including Lionel Messi and Venus Williams, Djokovic made a shaky start, seeing his serve broken in the first game, but he soon brushed it off.
He broke to love in the following game, and after Dimitrov levelled the set at 2-2, the Serb took control with a four-game winning streak, taking the lead with his third break of the match.
Djokovic then stormed into a 3-0 lead in the second set with little fuss, as Dimitrov struggled to come up with answers following a physical quarter-final match against Francisco Cerundolo on Wednesday.
The former world number one missed the chance to convert his first match point on the Bulgarian’s serve but converted the second to reach a record-extending 60th ATP Masters 1000 final.
He will face either Taylor Fritz or Jakub Mensik on Sunday as he bids to win in Miami for the first time since 2016.

Data Debrief: History beckons
All eyes will be on Djokovic this weekend as he looks to end his wait for his 100th title. Since the format's introduction in 1990, Djokovic (37 years and 301 days) is the oldest player to reach an ATP Masters 1000 final, surpassing Roger Federer.
He is into his eighth showpiece at the Miami Open, equalling Andre Agassi for the most of any player at the event since its inauguration in 1985.
Djokovic is also just the second player to achieve 100 match wins at the Sunshine Double (Indian Wells and Miami Open), along with Federer (122).
He is also tied with his great rival for the most consecutive seasons appearing in a tour-level final (20), and would overtake Agassi's record of six Miami titles if he does get his hands on the trophy.
