Luka Doncic set his sights on winning the NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers after he stole the show against the Denver Nuggets.

Doncic finished with a game-high 32 points as the Lakers claimed a 123-100 victory over the Nuggets on Saturday.

It marked the Lakers' first road win in Denver in close to three years.

Doncic poured in half of his points in the first quarter, as he turned in his best performance for the Lakers since his blockbuster trade from the Dallas Mavericks.

"He was super dialled in," teammate LeBron James said of Doncic.

"He was very locked in on what he wanted to do out here on the floor tonight.

"Once he started hitting those step-back 3s and got to yelling and barking, either at the fans or at us, or himself."

Doncic might have starred, but he was ably supported by James (25 points), Austin Reaves (23 points) and Rui Hachimura (21 points).

And the Slovenian sees no reason why the Lakers, who are fourth in the Western Conference with a 34-21 record, cannot target glory this season.

"I think our goal is – not I think – I know our goal is to win a championship," Doncic said, having also added 10 rebounds and seven assists.

"That's our only goal, and I think we have the team for that.

"It's very tough to play here against that team. To win like that, it's an amazing win for us and gives me a lot of confidence moving forward."

Lakers coach JJ Redick feels Doncic is best if acting as the coordinator of his team's attack.

"I think Luka needs to be the guy that controls the offense," Redick said.

"And LeBron and [Reaves], because we're going to stagger everybody, they're going to have their times to be on the ball.

"But all three of those guys are very intelligent basketball players, and we can create mismatches. We can get teams in the blender."
