USA and Oman make history as spinners star in record ODI defence

All 61 overs were bowled by spinners as the United States and Oman sent numerous records tumbling with a low-scoring ODI clash on Tuesday.

The United States defended just 122 against Oman as ODI records tumbled in Tuesday's spin-dominated match.

Oman suffered a 57-run defeat in a bizarre ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match in Al Amarat, where all 61 overs were bowled by spinners.

That made further history by becoming the first match in 4,671 men's one-day internationals where no pace or seam was bowled throughout.

The record for most wickets taken in an ODI by spinners was also matched after 19 wickets were taken, equalling the clash between Bangladesh and Pakistan in 2011.

India's 125-run defence against Pakistan in the Rothmans Four-Nations Cup in 1985 was previously the lowest score protected in a full ODI where play had not been reduced.

In this new record-breaking fixture, USA and Oman managed just 187 runs combined, the second-lowest aggregate score in an ODI where both teams were dismissed.

USA bowler Nosthush Kenjige was the standout performer, taking career-best figures of 5-11 as Oman were bowled out for 65 in only 25.3 overs.
