Bayern Munich 4-3 Holstein Kiel: Kane's record-breaking brace enough to see off late comeback

Harry Kane scored his 55th Bundesliga goal for Bayern Munich as they survived Steven Skrzybski's late double to beat Holstein Kiel.

Harry Kane marked his 50th Bundesliga appearance with a brace as Bayern Munich survived a late comeback to beat Holstein Kiel 4-3 at the Allianz Arena.

Kane scored his 54th and 55th top-flight goal on Saturday, more than any player has managed to score in 50 appearances in German top-flight history.

Bayern found themselves in front in the 19th minute after a slick move on the edge of the box saw Michael Olise cut the ball back for Jamal Musiala to sweep home.

The hosts entered the break two goals ahead when Kingsley Coman’s delicate cross was powered past Timon Weiner by the head of Kane in first-half stoppage time.

And after just 44 seconds of the second half, Kane grabbed his brace with another well-taken header, brushing off his marker to glance his effort into the net.

Bayern’s victory was all-but sealed eight minutes later when Serge Gnabry, on to replace Olise, brilliantly took the ball down in the area and fired into the roof of the net.

Holstein Kiel, however, reduced the deficit just after the hour through Finn Porath, who took aim and fired a right-footed strike beyond the grasp of Manuel Neuer.

And that seemingly sparked them into life, with substitute Steven Skrzybski striking twice in second-half stoppage time, but Bayern were able to hold on for the win.

The result saw Vincent Kompany's side move nine points clear at the summit, with second-placed Bayer Leverkusen in action against Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Data Debrief: King Kane continues to rule

Since joining Bayern back in 2023, Kane has so often been the difference to them, with his brace adding yet another record to his ranks, but it is trophies that he craves the most.

The England captain scored one of his seven Bundesliga hat-tricks against Kiel earlier this season, and has now only scored more goals against Stuttgart and Augsburg (both six) since his arrival in the German top-flight.

Kane ended the contest having had more shots on target (three) than any of his team-mates, but there were further impressive displays from Bayern on the day.

Substitute Gnabry accumulated an expected goals (xG) total of 1.01 towards Bayern's 3.34 total despite only being introduced at the break, while fellow goalscorers Koman and Musiala created four chances each, a total only bettered by Joshua Kimmich (five).
