Nuggets surprisingly fire coach Malone
In a shocking move, the Nuggets have fired their long-time coach a week before the play-offs are set to begin.
The Denver Nuggets surprisingly decided to fire coach Michael Malone on Tuesday with just three games to go in the regular season.
Malone led the Nuggets to the NBA championship two seasons ago, and is the winningest coach in franchise history with 471 victories during his 10 seasons at the helm in Denver.
David Adelman, the Nuggets' top assistant, has been tabbed to serve as Denver's interim coach.
Denver also decided to fire general manager Calvin Booth, who had held that position for the last three seasons.
"This decision was not made lightly and was evaluated very carefully," vice chairman of Kroenke Sports and Entertainment Josh Kroenke said in a statement, "and we do it only with the intention of giving our group the best chance at competing for the 2025 NBA Championship and delivering another title to Denver and our fans everywhere."
The Denver Nuggets have relieved Head Coach Michael Malone of his duties and will not extend General Manager Calvin Booth.

Led by three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets are in fourth place in the Western Conference with a 47-32 record, but they have lost a season-high four straight games.
They have yet to clinch a play-off berth, and could fall into the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Malone was hired by the Nuggets in 2015, and compiled a 471-327 regular-season record in Denver. He was the fourth-longest tenured active NBA coach behind San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich, Miami’s Erik Spoelstra and Golden State’s Steve Kerr.
Malone also went 44-36 in the play-offs with the Nuggets, reaching the Western Conference semi-finals in five of the last six seasons.
Booth's first season as Nuggets GM came during the team's 2022-23 championship season.
