Mazzulla placing trust in Brown to manage knee injury as Celtics outclass Spurs

Jaylen Brown is playing through the pain barrier for the Boston Celtics and Joe Mazzulla spoke about managing his knee injury.

Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is placing his trust in Jaylen Brown and the medical team to negotiate his way through a knee injury.

Brown played for just the third time since returning to the team from the issue as the Celtics outclassed the San Antonio Spurs 121-111 to make it eight wins in a row.

The shooting guard had 14 points and four assists in the victory but recently admitted his knee had not fully healed and he is still recuperating.

Mazzulla addressed the issue when speaking postgame after his team downed the Spurs.

"You trust him, you trust the sports science team, you trust the trainers," he said.

"You trust him taking care of the body, and he's doing everything he can to be available and he takes pride in that."

The Celtics are second in the Eastern Conference and have continued to chalk up the victories despite the standings almost being set as the NBA heads towards play-off time.

Asked how his team are staying focused, Mazzulla added: "It's the guys.

"They're competitive. They're competitive guys that want to win."

Jayson Tatum was impressive with 29 points, 10 rebounds and eight assist, while seven of the team that played in the game racked up double digits for points.

Tatum himself had to spend a couple of days recovering from an ankle complaint and asked how he had been, he replied: "Bored. It was painful but kind of like a shock factor."

The Celtics have gone 13-1 in March and 5-0 on this road trip. Reflecting on those impressive numbers, Tatum added: "[We're] following the gameplan and whatever we're trying to attack or achieve that night. We're challenging ourselves right now."
