Alcaraz overcomes De Minaur to reach Barcelona semi-finals
Carlos Alcaraz continued his hunt for a third title at the Barcelona Open by moving past Alex de Minaur into the semi-finals.
Carlos Alcaraz continued his run of electric form on Friday, booking his place in the Barcelona Open semi-final with a straight-sets win over Alex de Minaur.
The top seed extended his winning run to eight matches thanks to his 7-5 6-3 victory in one hour and 39 minutes.
Alcaraz almost forced a break in the second game, but De Minaur dug in deep, holding his serve before taking the lead in the next game.
However, the Spaniard remained patient, with little to split the pair as they continued to trade breaks before Alcaraz eventually found the edge, converting his second break point in the final game of the set.
He did not look back after that, holding his nerve before a three-game winning streak turned the game in his favour.
He took the match on his second attempt, and will face Arthur Fils in the final four, with the Frenchman advancing from his quarter-final after Stefanos Tsitsipas retired through injury after just 15 minutes.

On the other side of the draw, Holger Rune knocked out defending champion Casper Ruud with a statement 6-4 6-2 victory earlier on Friday.
It was a sixth consecutive quarter-final win for Rune, who will face Karen Khachanov after he beat the in-form Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4 7-5.
Data Debrief: Alcaraz keeps hot streak going
Having clinched his first Monte-Carlo title last week, Alcaraz is showing no signs of slowing down in Barcelona, where he is looking to clinch a third title.
He is now among a group of six players to record eight consecutive tour-level wins in 2025 after stretching his run on Friday.
